Former Championship star, Alexander Isak, and Joshua Zirkzee – Arsenal transfer targets for the summer window

Arsenal have scored 82 goals this season - more than any other team in the Premier League.

But the Gunners are still expected to make a move for a new striker this summer.

Here, WhoScored.com have picked out five linked with a switch to the Gunners in the off-season.

Viktor Gyokeres - Sporting CP

Since the turn of the year, Arsenal have been linked with a move for Sporting CP hitman Viktor Gyokeres, and for good reason.

The Swede has been sensational in Liga Portugal this season having scored 29 and laid on an additional 10 assists.

s one might expect, Gyokeres is the best rated player in the division having returned a WhoScored.com rating of 8.04.

The selflessness to Gyokeres' game is a key reason why Arsenal have been credited with an interest in the 25-year-old.

The former Coventry man is keen to link up with teammates, with his 10 assists coming from 47 key passes, the 12th most in the division, while 66 successful dribbles is the second most in Portugal's top tier.

Gyokeres is more than capable of punching a hole in opposition backlines, which explains the high level of interest in his services.

Benjamin Sesko - RB Leipzig

Having struggled for regular game time in the first half of the season, Benjamin Sesko is enjoying a prolonged run in the RB Leipzig starting XI and recently scored his 10th league goal of the season in a player of the match performance at FC Heidenheim.

With a reported £42.7m release clause in his contract that can be activated this summer, expect a scramble to secure the 20-year-old's services.

Sesko's willingness to pull to the flanks combined with his consistency in front of goal means interest in his services this summer will be high.

Of the 108 players to have fired off 25 or more shots, only Serhou Guirassy (32.1 per cent) has a better conversion rate than Sesko (25 per cent) in the Bundesliga this season, while only Harry Kane (8) has scored more headed goals (4).

He's a barrelling number nine with a desire to drift out wide, which would suit Arsenal's wingers. The Slovenia international could be perfect for the Gunners.

Victor Osimhen - Napoli

After a stunning 26-goal haul in Napoli's title winning season under Luciano Spalletti, Victor Osimhen has endured a subdued 2023/24 having struck just 13 times in Italy's top tier this term.

Injuries and managerial uncertainty haven't aided the Nigerian hitman but even so; he looks a far cry from the striker that stole headlines last season.

Nevertheless, interest in Osimhen remains high. He does have a €120m release clause in the contract he signed last December and in the modern market, that isn't such a stumbling block with potential suitors willing to spend big to secure the 25-year-old's services.

However, while Arsenal need a goalscoring forward, despite their impressive showings in front of goal, Osimhen's desire to remain central could impact any potential pursuit with the Gunners keen to add a more fluid forward to complement Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Martinelli and Leandro Trossard.

Alexander Isak - Newcastle

Newcastle may have to make one substantial sale this summer to remain in line with the Premier League's profit and sustainability regulations.

And while Bruno Guimaraes' £100m release clause, which becomes active in the off-season, is the most viable option to raise funds, rumours surrounding Alexander Isak's future at St. James' Park are unlikely to die down in the foreseeable.

The Swede has been a revelation for the Magpies this season, netting 17 times in England's top tier, that the fifth most in the division despite injury restricting Isak to 22 starts.

Of the 137 players to have managed at least 25 shots, Isak's conversion rate of 27.9 per cent is the third best in the 2023/24 Premier League campaign with the 24-year-old proving one of the divisions most consistent forwards.

Combined with a tendency to drift out towards the left flank, the space he vacates in the final third can be exploited by the wingers at Mikel Arteta's disposal.

Joshua Zirkzee - Bologna

Spearheading Bologna's top four push, Joshua Zirkzee has emerged as a target for Arsenal this summer.

The Dutch forward has netted 11 times for the Serie A outfit this season with Zirkzee one of the stars of Thiago Motta's side.

A slow burner having struck just two league goals in his debut campaign for Bologna, the youngster is now subject to interest from Arsenal, Manchester United and AC Milan as the trio look to bolster their respective frontlines.

And it's not just Zirkzee's goals that have helped boost his profile. While the former Bayern man has four assists to his name, that figure could well be higher had his teammates regularly sported their shooting boots.

Only Rafael Leao (17) and Federico Dimarco (14) have created more clear-cut chances than Zirkzee (11) in Italy's top tier this term.

The Bologna man's game does require refinement, but Arteta has helped improve Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Martinelli and Kai Havertz during his time at the club.

He'd view Zirkzee as a long-term project that could well complement the trio on the Gunners' frontline.
