‘One of our best…’ Ian Wright hails Arsenal trio who impressed during 5-0 win over Chelsea

This is slowly turning into a great week for Arsenal and it can get even better if they beat Tottenham on Sunday.

Compared to the previous week, when Mikel Arteta watched his team suffer a costly defeat to Aston Villa and then get knocked out of the Champions League.

It’s fair to say that the Arsenal players have responded very well to getting knocked down by beating Wolves 2-0 over the weekend.

And now, on Tuesday night, they well and truly smashed Chelsea 5-0, with goals from Leandro Trossard, as Ben White and Kai Havertz netted themselves a brace.

This now means that Arsenal are four points clear of Manchester City in the Premier League table.

The current holders have two games in hand – and they play Brighton on Thursday night followed by a trip to Nottingham Forest.

All in all, this is now the edgy time of the season, where fans and former players, such as Ian Wright, are getting very nervous, and understandably so.

But if Arsenal, at the very least, can take the title to the last day of the campaign, then key players need to step up.

Against Chelsea, Wright praised Havertz for his display and how he is now in such ‘confident form’, as he told Premier League Productions (23/04/24 at 10:20 pm).

Whilst he was also keen to give his flowers to Thomas Partey who had a ‘very good game’ upon his return to the XI and how Trossard is ‘one of our best finishers’.

“He is in such confident form, you can do these things,” said Wright about Havertz.

On Trossard and Partey: “He has scored six from the bench and, as I said earlier, he is one of our best finishers. When you look at this situation, Thomas Partey, who I thought had a very good game. Trossard really hugging the line and Declan Rice driving at them and that’s just pure power.

“Driving it through. You can see Havertz, it’s nice the way he has come off it. Into Thomas Partey, first-time touch, then Declan Rice in that position where Partey frees him up to be in. Perfect time to lay it off and then it was about, can he get the power to really drive this through to the keeper? He could and that was four minutes.”

Next up Tottenham

What a game in store at the weekend. The north London derby. A blockbuster game, with a lot riding on the line.

You could say that this is the chance for each team to ruin each other’s season.

Arsenal are, of course, still pushing for the title. Another defeat and they can wave goodbye to winning any silverware.

Whilst Tottenham still have a chance of a top-four finish. Lose here, then the advantage will be back in Aston Villa’s court, who are currently six points clear, but have played two games extra.
