Leeds United considered ideal place for Couto as Man City link grows

There is massive respect from Manchester City head coach Pep Guardiola towards Marcelo Bielsa, his counterpart at Leeds United. One thing Guardiola does is credit Bielsa with being a guiding influence throughout his career. This respect has seen him trust Bielsa with Jack Harrison and, according to some in the media, will do the same with Yan Couto.

Under Bielsa’s guidance, Jack Harrison has come on at Elland Road to such a degree that there are serious overtures from the Whites as to snapping him up for £8 million. It is the degree that Harrison has come in that is said to have convinced the Manchester City hierarchy to want Couto to experience a similar exposure to English football.

17-year-old Yan Bueno Couto is currently on the books of Brazilian side Coritiba FC, having moved up from their Under-20 outfit at the start of January this year. However, a transfer was agreed between Coritiba and Manchester City on March 1 and will see Couto become a Citizen for £5.4 million, rising to a near-£11 million based on reaching certain achievements.

Couto is highly rated and will be hoping to push on towards a starting spot at City and build on a burgeoning reputation that has seen him already earn 13 Brazil Under-17 caps. However, given the wealth of talent on the books at the Etihad, Curtiba-born teen Couto will have to bide his time.

That biding of time, so it seems, is thought best served at Elland Road, with Leeds United and under the meticulous management of Marcelo Bielsa.
