Charlton Athletic star man offered “bumper deal” by top-flight club

A report from Football Insider (via the News Shopper) has said that Scottish giants Rangers have made a “bumper offer” to try and sign Charlton Athletic’s out of contract midfield star Joe Aribo this summer.

Joe Aribo’s contract at Charlton Athletic is set to expire soon and his future at The Valley is still yet to be resolved, with continuing speculation regarding the ownership of the club and contract of manager Lee Bowyer still yet to be resolved as well.

There has been significant interest in 22-year-old midfielder Aribo over the past few months, with a number of clubs from all over Europe being credited with interest. Premier League sides Arsenal and Manchester City, newly promoted Aston Villa and Championship side Stoke City are all keen, as are French outfit Rennes.

Scottish champions Celtic are also interested in signing Aribo this summer, but it is their arch-rivals Rangers who have moved to make an offer to Aribo. Steven Gerrard’s side have offered the midfielder a “bumper”, long-term deal to join the Ibrox club this summer.

Aribo could yet remain at Charlton Athletic this summer, however. He was offered a new deal with the club after their play-off win over Sunderland but a conclusion of negotiations is yet to be reached.

Aribo was one of Charlton’s many strong performers over the course of the season. His form helped the club rise to a 3rd place finish in League One and into the play-offs, where they saw off Doncaster Rovers and Sunderland for a place in the Championship. Aribo played 39 games in all competitions, providing five assists and netting 10 goals along the way.
