Stoke City eye up 75-cap international as Jack Butland replacement

It has been widely reported since the end of the 2018/19 Championship season that goalkeeper Jack Butland is likely to be leaving Stoke City this summer to make a return to the Premier League.

And now, it has been claimed by The Sun that former England international goalkeeper Joe Hart is on the radar of Nathan Jones as Stoke City look to replace the departing Jack Butland. Hart has been linked with a number of clubs this summer after falling down the pecking order at Turf Moor.

He was the main man in between the sticks for Sean Dyche over the course of the first half of the season but was dislodged by Tom Heaton upon his return to fitness. He found himself on the bench for the remainder of the season and has not played since Boxing Day 2018.

Barnsley shot-stopper Adam Davies has also been touted for a move to Stoke City this summer should Butland make an expected move away, with his contract at Oakwell with the Tykes set to expire soon.

Hart has amassed plenty of experience at the top level of both English and European football over the course of his career. The 32-year-old played 348 games for Manchester City, with 62 of those coming in the Champions League and Europa League. He has also played for England on 75 occasions since making his debut in 2008.

One factor that could scupper Stoke’s hopes of a deal is Hart’s wages. Stoke will not be wanting to fork out a Premier League wage packet for the ‘keeper this summer, so he will have to take a hit on his salary should he make a move to the Potters.
