Leeds United and Middlesbrough in winger transfer tug-o-war

According to The Mirror’s Neil Moxley (Transfer News Live 15:36) Leeds United and Middlesbrough are two of FIVE teams in for Dutch winger Sheraldo Becker of ADO Den Haag.

The Mirror’s linking in of Leeds United, with Sheffield Wednesday, Swansea and Derby County also said to have “made enquiries”, follows on from interest confirmed by Teesside Live that Middlesbrough are also tracking him.

Teesside Live’s Anthony Vickers says that Boro have been keeping tabs on the Dutch 24-year-old over this last season, a season that will end with him running down his contract.

Sheraldo, who is the cousin of Swansea’s Luciano Narsingh, signed for Den Haag in late August 2016 from Dutch giants Ajax – a fee of €200,000 changing hands. He’d been on the books at the Amsterdam club since catching the eye as a nine-year-old at one of the club’s ‘talent days.’

Sheraldo Becker – goals and assists 2018/19

Altogether Becker has featured in 33 games for Den Haag in this season’s Eredivisie, racking up 2,871 minutes or 94% of available game time. He’s scored seven goals and provided 10 assists, his latest goal coming in a 2-0 win against Feyenoord six days ago.

That brings his total to 13 goals and 21 assists in 95 games for Den Haag and 17 goals and 26 assists in his 120 games in the Dutch top-tier Eredivisie competition.

Middlesbrough are thought to have been looking at Becker all the last campaign as they look to reinvent their attack and inject some pace and directness into it. Becker would definitely give them both of those attributes, and in spades.

For Leeds United, should their interest firm up, it would be a signing that replaces the loan deal of Manchester City youngster Jack Harrison. Harrison was a mainstay of Marcelo Bielsa’s Whites side, but he never really convinced fans who were critical of his consistency.

For any of the interested sides, Sheraldo Becker would give them a direct, pacy option from the right flank. He’s got straight-line quickness, but also an ability to beat his man with quick feet. As can also be seen from the above YouTube video, not only does he know where the back of the net is, he can also find teammates with accurate crosses.
