Jadon Sancho will return to Manchester United soon but his future remains very much up in the air.

After being frozen out at Old Trafford by Erik ten Hag after a public disagreement, the England winger re-joined Borussia Dortmund on loan and has rediscovered his love for football.

He is starting most games for Edin Terzic's men and produced an excellent display in the Champions League semi-final against Paris Saint-Germain, helping Dortmund win 1-0 in the first leg.

The 24-year-old's superb performance has left many Man United fans wondering if that potential could be unlocked in the Premier League.

When will Sancho return to Manchester United?

Sancho is currently on loan with Dortmund until the end of the season.

He returned to Germany in January, and there was no option to buy inserted into the deal.

This means he will officially head back to Man United on June 30, 2024.

Dortmund's last Bundesliga game of the season is on Saturday, May 18, against Darmstadt.

This will be his final home match with the German giants, but he could be involved in the Champions League final, which is set to be held at Wembley and will take place on Saturday, June 1.

If Dortmund can get through their second leg against PSG, Sancho's last game - for now - will be the Champions League final.

But if the Bundesliga side go out, you can expect the former Manchester City youth prospect to be in England before June.

However, his return may be delayed should Gareth Southgate decide to include Sancho in his Euro 2024 squad.

If this were to be the case, Manchester United could expect Sancho back at some point in pre-season.

But he isn't thinking about any of that right now and is focused on finishing the season well.

Speaking recently about his future, he said: “I came [to Dortmund] at 17, they gave me the opportunity to play and I am delighted to be welcomed back and I am focused on the present right now.”

What is Sancho's contract situation?

Once his loan with Dortmund ends, Sancho will have two years left on his United contract.

He joined the Red Devils in the summer of 2021 and signed a five-year deal with the option of an extra year.

This means that the club could face a tricky decision over the winger's future.

If Ten Hag remains, the club could be forced to sell Sancho to make some money back from the £73million they splashed out on the forward.

Ten Hag was recently asked about Sancho's future and refused to confirm he would be part of his plans despite praising him.

He said: "So let's say this, [against PSG] he played very good and he's a very good player, he showed why Manchester United bought him and he showed he represents a high value for Manchester United. Which is good.

"I'm happy for Jadon, for the performance and we'll see what is going to happen in the future."

If Sir Jim Ratcliffe and United's new football board think Ten Hag's time is up, any new manager would be tasked with getting the best out of Sancho because he's still a supremely talented player.

However, the England winger might decide that it's time to move on and try something new, which is possible.

If this happens, the club would simply have to get as much of their initial investment back.

So, it's a big summer for Sancho and Man United once his loan with Dortmund ends.
