Mikel Arteta couldn't believe what he saw as Ben White scored a 'wonder goal' against Chelsea.

The Gunners defender scored his second and the club's fifth of the night in a 5-0 win that put them three points clear at the top of the Premier League table.

With 70 minutes on the clock, Martin Odegaard sent a neatly chipped ball into the box and onto the run of White who was charging in from the right.

White then delicately volleyed it first time into the top left corner of the goal, with many initially thinking it took a deflection on its way in.

Replays showed it didn't and Arteta was seen with his hands on his head on the touchline in visible awe.

Speaking on commentary for talkSPORT, former Manchester City defender Danny Mills was also impressed with White's finish.

"If it's his goal and he's side footed that into the top corner, it is an outstanding volley," he said, before adding: "It's a wonder goal."

However, did he mean it? That's the question he was asked afterwards. "I'll let everyone else decide," he said.

Teammate Leandro Trossard interrupted to set the record straight. "He meant it." White's celebrations, though, suggest another story.

Trossard, who scored the first goal of the night, praised the club's defence, who kept another clean sheet, but this time White said it's as a team that goals stay out, pointing to the work of the wingers in tracking back to help.

Arsenal were the dominant side from minute one at the Emirates and Trossard scored their opener in the first five minutes.

And after the break, the team stepped up a gear having gone in at half-time just one goal up.

White scored within seven minutes of the restart when capitalising on poor defending from Chelsea.

Former Blue Kai Havertz then scored twice to inflict further damage on the visitors.

White's second of the game was arguably the best of the lot and capped off an excellent performance from Arsenal.

It's a result that sends them back to the top of the Premier League although City have two games in hand on them with Tottenham up next for the Gunners.

"It was a big performance, collectively and individually," said Arteta.

"I thought we were really good, against a really good team that was in great form and were going to ask us a lot of questions. I think we responded really well.

"From the start we were really determined, really flowing, playing with a lot of courage and making things happen. Really happy with the result. It's a big day for our supporters.

"It's great for us, for the confidence and for the belief that we can do it, we can come to these stages against big teams and win games the way we've done it tonight. So enjoy it, then it's back to work tomorrow because we have a big one on Sunday."

Defeat for Chelsea comes just days after they were knocked out of the FA Cup semi-finals and leaves their hopes of qualifying for Europe in the balance.
