Manchester City shot themselves to the top of the Premier League table on Saturday afternoon with a 5-1 win over Luton, giving them control of the title race for the first time in two months, now boasting a two-point lead at the top of the table.

Pep Guardiola's side are bidding to become the first ever European team to win consecutive trebles having won the Premier League, Champions League and FA Cup last season, and remain well in the fight of all three competitions again this time around.

This season's Champions League quarter final is a repeat of their semi final tie from last season, with last week's first leg ending in a draw in Madrid, just as it did last year.

The Citizens won last season's second leg 4-0, and will be hoping for a similar performance on Wednesday night as they bid to reach a fourth consecutive Champions League semi final, and carry with them a 27-match unbeaten run in all competitions, of which they've won 22.

The Etihad Stadium has become something of a fortress for Guardiola's side of late, not having tasted defeat on their home patch since before the 2022 World Cup, and winning 35 games out of their 41 since.

Carlo Ancelotti's side maintained their eight point lead at the top of La Liga on Saturday evening with a 1-0 win over Mallorca, leaving them 15 matches without defeat now, of which they've won 11.

The Spanish giants have been beaten on only two occasions all season in all competitions so far, both at the hands of Atletico Madrid at the Metropolitano in league and cup, the first of which came way back in September.

The side from the capital will be out for revenge for last season's drubbing at the Etihad, as they bid to extend their European record by winning a 15th title, with the league and European double very much still on for them.

Real Madrid have only won one of their last seven matches against Manchester City, and never won at the Etihad, losing on their last three visits.

Guardiola's rivalry with Ancelotti is one of the greats of the modern game between two of the all time best managers, though the Spaniard holds the upper hand on recent meetings, losing only one of his last nine matches against the Italian, winning six.
