France midfielder Tchouameni was targeted by Mallorca fans following his stunning goal in Los Blancos' 1-0 win on Saturday.

Brazil's Vinicius Jr - a frequent victim of racist abuse - was reduced to tears when quizzed on the impact the abuse left on him last month.

Speaking during Madrid's pre-match press conference for their Champions League quarter-final second leg against Manchester City, live on talkSPORT 2, Bellingham expressed his doubt that players will be better protected.

On the abuse Tchouameni suffered, Bellingham admitted: "It’s mad you say that. I didn’t know. In the games you get used to it.

"I wasn’t even aware of the incident. It’s a massive problem, more has to be done. It’s a horrible way for a player to prepare for a game, knowing you're going to be racially abused.

"It’s disgusting, people in the game need to do more. Vini gets attention, the game would miss players like him if he decided to take a break from the game. More needs to be done.

"No one deserves that so it’s a call out for the people who run the game. I doubt it will happen.

"You have to play your game and hope the people look after you – they are not doing it well enough at the moment."

Last season, Vinicius Jr stopped playing to call out Valencia fans at the Mestella who were racially abusing him from the stands.

That was among the ten such incidents against the 23-year-old reported to prosecutors by LaLiga.

The Brazil international admitted during his recent emotional press conference that he feels 'less and less' like playing due to the abuse.

As for Tchouameni, Mallorca have confirmed they are working with the police to investigate an alleged racist gesture made against him during his goal celebrations last weekend.

“In yesterday’s match between RCD Mallorca and Real Madrid, images have been identified in which a person made racist gestures,” Mallorca said in a statement on Sunday.

“The club has activated the protocol against violence in football and is collaborating with the National Police in the identification of this person.”
